According to MIRS, 600 employees who work for the MEA and are represented by the United Staff Organization (USO) may see their benefits cut. Apparently, Ira Salters, President, proposed that USO members work 20 years before receiving a 50% employer-paid health benefit into retirement. MEA members get fully paid health after just 10 years.
USO President, Tom Greene cried foul. "This is what's totally ironic...and offensive. These are the same issues we fought for on behalf of the MEA members. [This] seems a little hypocritical."
The MEA was not available to comment on the MIRS story.
