Integrity at a premium

In politics, there is plenty of posturing, rhetoric and finger-pointing. But one thing that has always been a code of honor, even between parties, is your WORD. If you make a promise, you keep it.

Apparently, this is not the case with our friends in the Dem leadership. After several days of negotiating, our Minority floor leader made a deal. Three GOP votes, if the Dems put up 54 votes. It was an agreement, a solemn vow. It was a bond.

We faithfully held up our end of the bargain from the first minute of voting. And then we waited, and waited, and waited. Finally, at 7:30 a.m. they gave up. They failed to hold up their end of the bargain. They could only muster 51 of their own party's votes.

They ran over our leadership and several of their own members who did not want to vote for an 18% increase in personal income taxes.

We will be back Sunday night to see what they are going to promise next...
