OK, quiz question. The board opened up for a vote on the MESSA reform package. The Dems all put up their "NO" votes (except for three brave souls who voted "YES") and then left the House floor. They haven't been seen much since. So the question is, Why? Where did they go?
Here is a hint. The board opened at 1 p.m. Hmmm, let's see. Oh, I know, I know! That was when the game started!
Figure on the folks in charge to start thinking about that silly little shutdown thing at oh, about 4 O'Clock.

Jack, Keep up the good work I love hearing from you from the floor!
Thanks for the blog Jack. I would like to hear just one reason that opening up teachers' health insurance to competitive bids would be a bad thing for the state. (No, not how it would be bad for MESSA all you teachers and people who work for MESSA; how it would be bad for the STATE.)
One thing to thing about, though, and if I'm wrong, please correct me.
Isn't there a stipulation that has to allow for about 6 hours from the time something is discussed to when it can be voted on? Again, I'm not positive because the intricacies of the government workings are a bit greek to me.
The Recall man stands at the ready....to recall those who vote for a Tax increase. Be warned...
Thank you for the updates. Wish we had someone in our district so commited!
We are in a service industry which looks to take up the you-know-what! As if biz hasn't been bad already.....
I see the big service industries have already been excluded.
What a state we live in!!!!
mom32051, the MESSA reforms would cost the state more in administrative and IT costs. You can read the Senate Fiscal Analysis here
This is where the dems give themselves away. Why wouldn't you want to open the health insruance to competitive bids? Then again Jen dosen't like competitive bids that way she can payback her supporters with unnecesary projects they can over bill the state for. What a joke. Maybe they should stop blaming Engler and start working.
I also would like to thank you for the info. I have been looking for info all weekend and this is the best.
Keep up the good work, Jack! And keep us posted!
The ONLY entity that it would be bad for is MESSA! The teachers will benefit by getting at least as good of coverage, at a reduced cost to the schools, the schools benefit, and the state. MESSA is the only loser
Thanks again Jack! (Can't say that enough.)
Good grief. This is extortion! I know I said this before, but sure hope we have some decent people up there from the media who will report this HONESTLY!
Last time I checked, extortion, coercsion and blackmail were illegal and this is exactly what the governor and the Dems are engaging in. Have they pulled guns yet? Oh wait...woops...they are against guns. Guess you guys lucked out there.
Appreciate your blog....
Looks like you better hunker down for the evening...
I'll check back about 9 p.m. and see whether any progress has been made. I expect it will be 11:50 p.m. and then Dillon and Bishop will pull the plugs on the clocks in the Capitol and allow the fun to continue. It won't be the first time it has happened... The last time was in the late '80s early '90s.
I just found this. Thank you so much for the timely updates. It's frustrating waiting for the news each evening, only to find out that nothing is happening. Your
"play-by-play" is informative and keeps us smiling in an otherwise tense situation. By-the-way...
I'd rather see short shutdown than a tax increase.
Hey Jack,
I just wanted to thank you real quick. Thanks for keeping us updated on all that's happening and thanks for fighting the good fight.
It's a shame that this has all had to come down to a Sunday afternoon session. But I know you and a number of other people have the state's best interest in mind.
Be sure to keep the fellow conservatives hard at work. I know you and Tom George are doing the right thing. Make sure my senator (Randy Richardville) is also keeping conservative ideals at heart.
